Blown-in cellulose is a loose-fill insulation made primarily from recycled paper fibers treated for fire and pest resistance. It is installed using specialized equipment that distributes the material evenly into attics and other hard-to-reach areas.

Old insulation may need removal if it has been damaged by water, pests, smoke, or heavy contamination. Removal may also be necessary when existing insulation prevents proper air sealing or makes installing an effective new insulation system difficult.
